This DVD is packed with information that
can directly improve your abilities to help clients in pain.
According to recent statistics, 30% of the U.S. adult population
suffers from lower back problems. Generally lower back disorders
are classified as lumbalgia, lumbago, radiculopathy (radiating
pain to the lower extremities). On DVD#1, Boris explains in
detail the causes that lead to lumbalgia, disc herniation,
as well as sciatica neuralgia. For example, in most cases
of lumbalgia, the origin of the pain is so-called mechanical
pain, or myofascial pain which in time can become the main
factor for development of intervertebral disc herniation,
etc. It is a known fact that the above mentioned pathologies
are very difficult to treat by any means other than massage
therapy. Therefore, Boris teaches not only how to eliminate
myofascial pain but also how to prevent intervertebral disc
herniation.
Nowadays it is commonplace for people with cases of sciatica
neuralgia to be referred for spinal surgery when really the
main cause of the sciatica neuralgia is over-tensed piriformis
muscles (piriformis muscle syndrome). On DVD #1 Boris explains
in detail and demonstrates step by step the protocol for various
lower back disorders including sciatica. This protocol was
developed by Vladimir Cherneh MD, PhD, in 1976 and since then,
has proven to be the most safe and effective.
Also on this DVD, Boris demonstrates various
massage therapy techniques, including superficial fascia release,
deep fascia release techniques, trigger point therapy, and
skin mobilization, Boris thoroughly explains and demonstrates
post-isometric relaxation techniques, which he believes plays
a crucial role in treating lower back disorders. Exercise
program is a very important rehabilitative effort to propose
to ones clients. With the help of a model, Boris presents
a safe, gentle and effective exercise program forrehabilitation
of lower back disorders.
Testimonial
"Only a real master of the art of massage can stay
in front of the camera for approx.20 hours, and without a
script, talk about and demonstrate the protocols of massage
therapy on more than 50 topics. I possess all 11 volumes of
Boris Prilutskys DVDs, and have carefully viewed each.
In my opinion, never before has such an excellent collection
of educational massage DVDs been produced. I have been practicing
and incorporating massage therapy for more than 30 years,
and in my opinion, this is a great and unique collection.
I would recommend to anyone who wants to improve their massage
skills to obtain these DVDs."

Medical
Massage and Post-Isometric Relaxation and Exercise Program
in Cases of Lumbalgia, Lumbago, and Sciatic Neuralgia
In
most cases pain in the lower back, upper back, and neck, originates
from neuromuscular disorders. This means that, due to physical
or emotional overload, muscles can accumulate tension to the
point that nerve tissue is irritated or compressed. This kind
of irritation can evoke a rich neurological picture, including
irradiation of pain to the extremities or to the head. Additionally,
in the presence of spondylosis (including spondyloarthritis,
degenerative disc disease, herniation, etc.) spinal nerves
can be irritated or compressed, which in turn can cause irradiation
of pain, stiffness, etc.
The
intervertebral disc consists of a peripheral fibro-cartilagenous
ring filled with a gel-like nucleus. These discs are located
between the bodies of the vertebrae, and play an important
role in shock absorption, as well as spinal column movement.
When the paravertebral erector muscles (the muscles responsible
for keeping our bodies erect) become over-tensed, the intervertebral
disc begins to experience greater weight bearing tension and
higher level of function in shock absorption and movement.
This physical overload of the disc causes dehydration of the
nucleus, which in turn causes the walls of the ring to bulge
insignificantly. Over time, fissuring of the inner part of
the disc occurs. Fissuring and dehydration of the disc eventually
lead to the herniation of the intervertebral disc nucleus.
The pressure of the nucleus is greater than the peripheral
walls of the disc can bear. As a result, the nucleus of the
disc bulges out, at times as much as 3-7 millimeters. Compression
of a spinal nerve by the disc immediately awakens a rich neurological
picture with irradiation of pain. The intensity of this pain
is sometimes very difficult to tolerate.
We
do not believe that the decompression of the size of the disc
is possible. However, we do believe that the rehabilitation
of a herniated disc, as well as the elimination of the painful
symptoms, is possible. In most cases we can achieve that in
a short period of time. In Volume 1 of Boris Prilutskys
Medical Massage DVD series, Boris explains in detail and offers
a hands-on demonstration of specialized Medical Massage techniques
in treating cases of lower back disorders. Additionally, Boris
offers several unique accessory treatment modalities utilizing
post-isometric relaxation and rehabilitative exercise programs.
